About Me
I'm James Whistance-Smith, a 21 year old about to embark upon a career as a software engineer in Hertfordshire.
I've just finished a B.A. in Mathematics and Computer Science at St. Anne's College, University of Oxford, where I was able to explore subjects that I'm very enthusiatic about. Luckily I found time along the way to make (hopefully) life-long friends with whom I had great fun relaxing, playing sport and all the usual student activities.
Before university I attended Wolverhampton Grammar School, which after spending five years there as a student, I spent two and a half years working there in the ICT department during vacations. I gained invaluable experience with all aspects of networking a non-trivial site of roughly 800 users and 350 machines getting to install, configure and administer servers and associated software such as Exhange, SQL Server, Milestone and various educational software. It was also here that I got into Frisbee (more later) with the great friends that I worked with.
Away from work I am a keen amateur photographer, which I describe in the photography section and also really enjoy sport. As much as possible I try to combine the two and photograph either professional sport or my own sports teams. I've played football and cricket for about ten years and will be playing both for as many years as I continue to enjoy them. I also took up Ultimate Frisbee during my final year at university, which I found to be enormous fun and hope to carry on playing if I can find a local club. I've also been known to dabble in darts, though this is mainly a product of spending too long in the college bar and the 2nd team being in need of an extra player.
When the weather's bad and there's no sport on then I enjoy watching films and comedy television. Without a doubt I consider Futurama to be the greatest TV show created and have an unhealthy knowledge of the show, useful for nothing other than scoring well on Mastermind! Other favourites include British and American comedies such as Scrubs, Blackadder and Peep Show as well as dramas such as 24.
